Lightguide is one of the world's leading companies in the design and manufacture of silica optical fibres and fibre optic products. The light-conducting fibres produced here are used in the manufacture of minimally invasive medical instruments, as well as in the production of fibre bundles that are further used by the world's leading industrial and scientific equipment designers and manufacturers. For example, Lightguide medical instruments are widely used for vein, urology and other surgeries, while fibre bundles are used in equipment such as semiconductor manufacturing process and quality control equipment, including spectroscopy, UV curing and other applications.
Historically, Livani has been an industrial town with a well-developed industry, and the origins of glass fibre can be traced back to its origins here. The first optical fibre was rolled out in 1983 in the experimental fibre optics shop of the Livani Glass Factory. Despite the fact that this field was developing rapidly and had great potential, in the early 1990s they wanted to destroy it - the Soviet Union was collapsing and it was considered unnecessary to do fibre optics. The founders of Lightguide fought for their industry because they were convinced that the world needed fibre optics. That conviction created the tenacity that enabled them to endure these difficult times and become number one in the world.
The company's fibre optics reach almost every continent in the world, and the company itself ranks among the fastest growing and most valuable companies in Latvia.
