2026-03-20

On 19 March 2026, representatives of the Latgale Special Economic Zone (Latgale SEZ) visited the company SIA “Zelta Zeme” in Līvāni Municipality to assess the results of the implemented investment project on site.

SIA “Zelta Zeme” is one of the largest companies operating within the Latgale SEZ, with long-standing experience and a clear vision for sustainable development. The company specialises in peat extraction, production of peat raw materials, and the development of ready-to-use growing substrates for plants. It ensures high quality standards and efficient logistics, successfully operating in international markets.

During the visit, the results of the investment project “Modernisation of the packaging line of SIA ‘Zelta Zeme’” were reviewed. The project was launched in December 2024, with total investments reaching nearly EUR 2.9 million.

As part of the project, significant investments were made in production modernisation – new technological equipment was installed, alongside reconstruction works of the production facilities and improvements to the surrounding infrastructure, enhancing both production efficiency and the company’s competitiveness.

Pēteris Romanovskis, Chairman of the Board of SIA “Zelta Zeme”:
“We have successfully implemented one of our investment projects worth nearly EUR 2.9 million. Within one and a half years, we modernised our production by introducing advanced packaging and robotic palletising equipment, constructing a new hangar for both storage and production facilities, and improving storage areas, the territory, and access roads. If weather conditions remain favourable, this will significantly support the production and diversification of our products.”

“Our peat substrate products are experiencing growing demand globally, and we are expanding our sales not only in Europe but also in Asia, the Americas, South America, and North America. Looking ahead, we are planning an additional investment project focused on utilising tree stumps, wood, and various chip materials found in peatlands, which will allow us to diversify substrate compositions and expand our product offering in the future,” added P.Romanovskis.

Vladislavs Stankevičs, Deputy Manager of the Latgale SEZ Authority:
“The implemented project represents an important step in the company’s development, while also promoting the introduction of sustainable production principles and efficient use of resources. SIA ‘Zelta Zeme’ continues to strengthen Latgale’s position as a competitive manufacturing region, contributing to export growth, productivity, and the region’s international recognition.”
