Latgale Day 2025 Honours the Region’s Outstanding Entrepreneurs: Innovation of the Year – SIA Nexis Fibers

2025-12-12

On 11 December, in a ceremonial and inspiring atmosphere at the GORS Concert Hall, the annual event “Latgale Region Entrepreneurs’ Award 2025”, organised by the Latgale Planning Region, took place, bringing together entrepreneurs, national and local government leaders, partners, and cooperation organisations.

This year, 12 main nomination awards and three Recognition Awards were presented, resulting in a total of 15 awards highlighting the creativity, sustainable development, innovation, and preservation of traditional skills demonstrated by Latgale’s entrepreneurs.

The festive atmosphere of the event was enhanced by performances from the musical ensemble Baritoni, while speeches by national and local government officials emphasised the vital role of Latgale’s entrepreneurs in shaping the future of both the region and the country.

Addressing the audience at Latgale Day 2025, the Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development , Raimonds Čudars, stated:

“Latgale’s entrepreneurs, through their work and determination, demonstrate strength and create added value not only for Latgale, but for Latvia as a whole. Many of them export their products and become leading companies in their respective sectors nationwide—and I can only encourage them to continue in this direction. Events like this, held before Christmas, are an excellent opportunity to honour entrepreneurs in a special way, thank them for their contribution, and wish them joyful and heartfelt holidays.”

The Chairman of the Development Council of the Latgale Planning Region and Chairman of the Preiļi Municipality Council, Aldis Adamovičs, addressing participants of Latgale Day 2025, emphasised:

“For 11 years, we have been honouring the strongest entrepreneurs in Latgale, and once again this evening we are recognising those whose work and determination drive the growth of our region across 12 nominations. Industrial areas are actively developing in Latgale, municipalities are implementing significant projects, and the business environment is becoming increasingly competitive. Our region can be proud of world-class achievements—from the optoelectronics cluster that supplies a substantial share of the global optical fibre market to companies exporting to more than 140 countries. Latgale’s entrepreneurs carry the region’s name into the world and lay the foundation for stable economic development. This evening, we have come together to express our gratitude and to honour the best, most innovative, and most enterprising entrepreneurs of Latgale.”

Awards were presented to 12 nomination winners and three recipients of Recognition Awards (additional information is available on the Latgale Planning Region website).

The Innovation of the Year award was granted to Nexis Fibers, a company operating within the Latgale Special Economic Zone.

Innovation of the Year – Nexis Fibers

SIA Nexis Fibers is a high-technology Latgale SEZ company based in Daugavpils, distinguished by its innovative solutions in the production of technical fibres.

In 2024, Nexis Fibers introduced its latest innovation—the first in its industry to develop chemically and mechanically recycled, as well as bio-based technical yarns produced from chemically recycled or bio-origin polymer feedstock. This approach significantly reduces waste and gives materials a “second life.”

The company has also introduced infrared-invisible technical yarns for camouflage clothing and equipment, offering new solutions for the security and defence sector.

At the same time, one of the largest solar panel parks in Latgale was established at the company, substantially reducing CO₂ emissions and strengthening sustainable manufacturing practices. These strategic solutions and investments position Nexis Fibers as a compelling example of how innovation, science, and sustainability are shaping the future of modern industry in Latgale.
