SIA “Weld” (Industrial Holding Group) is a Daugavpils-based manufacturing and metalworking company that joined the Latgale Special Economic Zone (Latgale SEZ) on March 18, 2024, concluding an investment agreement within the framework of the project “Purchase of production equipment to increase the capacity of SIA “Weld”. On December 13 of this year, the Latgale SEZ Board approved the first investment project implemented by the company, which resulted in the purchase of a metal pipe laser cutting machine and a CNC metal lathe.
Since the main field of activity of SIA “Weld” is the production of metal parts and structures of varying complexity, the new equipment will significantly improve the company's production capacity, offering customers a full production cycle - from engineering development to quality control of finished products. It should be noted that the company's main customers are Western European mechanical engineering companies.
In 2019, SIA “Weld” purchased a dilapidated building in Daugavpils, which was once the largest chemical fiber factory in the city. Over the past few years, the company has renovated and improved the building, and now a modern and sustainable metalworking factory is located there. Thus, not only has a dilapidated area been tidied up in the city, but an environmentally friendly and “green” building has been created – thanks to the solar panel park located on the roof, the factory does not consume additional energy, as it is sufficient for itself with the amount of renewable electricity it produces.
Jānis Lāčplēsis, Chairman of the Latgale SEZ Supervisory Commission, opening the renovated production facilities with equipment purchased as a result of the Latgale SEZ investment project, highly appreciated the work of SIA “Weld”, contributing to the development of the Northern Industrial Zone of the city of Daugavpils by renovating buildings that, as everyone thought, were scheduled to be dismantled.
“We are proud of the success of SIA “Weld”, which, by attracting investments, has been able to renovate and create an environmentally friendly production facility in the degraded area of Daugavpils, installing a solar panel park on the roof of the building and purchasing modern equipment, which is also used by young specialists trained by the Latgale Industrial Technical School in Daugavpils,” admitted J. Lāčplēsis.
In turn, SIA “Weld” board member Māris Gabrāns noted that he is grateful for the long-term, several-year cooperation with representatives of the Latgale SEZ, which this year has resulted in success in implementing an investment project for the purchase of production equipment and the creation of new jobs. M. Gabrāns also thanked the Daugavpils City Municipality and “Luminor” bank for their cooperation, which has financed the company since 2019, providing the opportunity to reconstruct the production building and build a solar panel park for the company’s “greener” operations.
